How do you spend your time? Do you find yourself wondering what the heck happened to your day? Like many of us, we tend to get into cycles in our lives where we get into autopilot mode. This mode can be for all sorts of reasons. The big question is, are we wasting our time doing things that really and truly serve us no purpose whatsoever.

Lost and confused

Some weeks for me are better than others where I find myself lost in creativity and just enjoying the heck out of it. Other times I find myself kind of lost and confused as to what’s next. When you have many irons in the fire it can get overwhelming as to how much to do for what thing. The confusion I seem to have many times is am I dedicating too much time doing one certain part of the business and not giving enough to another. This process for me has been challenging because the type of business I have has many different facets to it which aren’t always easily described.

Getting sucked into distractions

I am learning a lot and I always enjoy thinking outside the box. Certain times fatigue sets in and it gets to become too much. Once this happens the ADHD side really comes out and I am like a wildfire burning in all directions. This fire is short-lived and I end up burnt out and then say screw it and get sucked into some type of unhealthy distraction. Time management has been a big part of my learning process. It is important for me to get back on track as quickly as possible.

The key is to understand that I am at a point where I may not be using my time as wisely as I should. Sometimes I waste too much time doing unnecessary things or things that really aren’t contributing to my goals overall. Once my brain realizes that I am heading in the wrong direction I am then able to bring it back in. Being stubborn and defiant sometimes keeps me going down the wrong road just because. That’s not good, so make sure you monitor how you spend your time.

It is ok to take a break from a project once in a while if it’s becoming too much. Forcing something doesn’t always yield the best results. At this point step back take a breath and figure out how you want to manage your time for what you are working on. Try not to stress yourself out because then you could end up completely overwhelmed. Timeboxing is a great strategy to help get you up and going again in the right direction.

This has helped me way more than I could have ever imagined. Managing my time in the past was a big one for me, so it is important that I keep this at the forefront. I have always given 100% in the things I do, but just because you are giving your all doesn’t mean that your time spent on things is in the right way. This one is a hard pill to swallow for many because you kind of have blinders on. You believe that your all is everything that matters.

Conclusion

Learn how you spend your time. Try to learn how to use your time. Learn how to save your time.
