Growing up I was without fear, without limitations, and always took things head-on. Now, not so much. Unfortunately over time most of us kind of slow down with the confident mentality due to our previous experiences. Are your limiting beliefs holding you back? Don’t limit yourself.

limiting beliefs: is a state of mind, conviction, or belief that you think to be true that limits you in some way.

Today I am reflecting back on how things may have transitioned in my life. Sometimes I find myself stalling on things because maybe subconsciously I don’t feel like I am capable of doing them. I recall saying things like, “I’m not good at that,” and just plain giving up. In most cases had I just kept trying I would have gotten the hang of things quickly. I would keep limiting myself.

There are no limits

I believe that my limiting beliefs were solely based on the opinions and viewpoints of others around me and not necessarily my own. This can be very bad for your overall outlook on your potential abilities. That’s why it is very important to surround yourself with people that celebrate you and your natural abilities.

Limiting beliefs will suppress any and all attempts at achieving great things. You have to get your confidence up and stop feeling like whatever shortcomings you have meant that you can’t accomplish things. Recognize that yes there will be many challenges along the way and maybe learning things won’t come easy but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.

Reevaluate what’s important

A good way to help you get through this is to figure out why you have limiting beliefs in the first place. Were they based in the past where you weren’t good at something so you stopped trying? Or was it the people around you who would always try to knock you down along the way? If you are around people who are like this, you should probably start by reevaluating the relationships you keep.

Next, a good idea is to figure out the truths about you and write them down. You know the things that you are good at. Following should be an internal perspective shift. Give yourself a good pep talk about how you can accomplish anything. Scratch all that old stuff and start fresh. Easier said than done I know.

Look back through history of men and women who created amazing things. Many of those people failed thousands of times before they got one thing right. You can do the same so don’t look at your past experiences as your stopping point. Don’t limit yourself with limiting beliefs.

A look at some men and women who achieved amazing things:

Stan Lee- Marvel Comics Universe creator.

Florence Nightingale- an amazing war-hero nurse.

Henry Ford- founder of the Ford Motor Company.

Marie Curie- discovered Radioactivity.

Sam Walton- founder of Walmart.

Coco Chanel- changed the world of fashion.

Miguel de Cervantes- author of Don Quixote.

Mother Teresa- named as a Saint.

Chip Wilson- creator of world known athletic wear.

Oprah Winfrey- TV personality extraordinaire.

Nikola Tesla- American Inventor on a grand scale.

Stephanie Kwolek- invented Kevlar.

You- fill in the blank!

Conclusion

Your limiting beliefs should be kept at a bare minimum, in fact, you should eradicate them altogether. Keep at your goals, keep at your hobbies, and try new things. This will go a long way on your quest for nothing but goodness. I am rooting for you!!
