The laptop lifestyle! This is a different way of life than the traditional 9-5 working world. Many of us have laptops and understand the purpose of it being mobile. You can make your work mobile.

Different style of working

Many people are tired of hours of commute times and lack of flexibility within their present jobs. Day in and day out crawling along in their cars to arrive at a job they don’t even like. Having a laptop lifestyle could change this up. There is more flexibility and it just gives you more freedom.

There’s a misnomer with this type of lifestyle that you have to be a business owner and that’s not the case. You can have your own business online, be a contractor or work as an employee for a company.

You can create an online-based business that is becoming more and more common. As a contractor, you can do contract projects from online contract portals or work for a business that has the ability to be a remote employee. Some remote employees have certain freedoms and flexibilities within the job that would make it easier to do the things you want in life on your terms.

Lifestyle flexibility

I hear a lot of parents telling me that they have missed so many activities for their kids due to not having flexible schedules. A lot of schools have awards and other activities during the school day that make it almost impossible to attend. Usually, the parents that attend are homemakers or have the flexibility to do so. Regardless of having kids or not people deserve to have more freedom with their time.

Having a laptop lifestyle does have many wonderful perks with it. You can make time work for you and you travel more since it’s online-based. All you need is a reliable internet connection to complete the things you need. You just need to decide which direction you want to go with it and get started.

“Don’t watch the clock, do what it does. Keep going.” -Sam Levenson

It’s not all glamorous

As wonderful as it sounds, just like anything there are some potential drawbacks. In most cases, you end up working way more hours than a traditional job. If you have a home office you will have to create certain habits for yourself to keep you in line with your goals.

It’s easy to finish your day’s set tasks, but it becomes complicated to resist the urge to go back on and work on other things. Then those things end up turning into other things. You get the point. You are always with it, hence potentially getting bogged down by it. A digital leash if you will.

Take mental breaks

You have to take mental and physical breaks so that you don’t get burnt out. Over time you will learn how to set up strategic goals that can make it be the benefit you sought in the first place. By learning how to set and achieve goals I now know how to create a daily allotment of tasks. Sometimes I am finding that the tasks I created for the day end up taking way longer, but at that point, I get to decide if I keep going or stop for the day.

Most times I will continue because I know that the end result will truly afford me the ability to do the things I want. Working hard and pushing though makes me feel more accomplished.
