What are your hopes and dreams? Have you done anything about them? As long as I can remember I always said, “If we don’t have hopes and dreams, then what do we have?” This was used to help others get perspective within their lives. Usually, it was an encounter with someone that may have had somewhat of a self-catastrophizing mentality.

I am not really sure if I was one of these people or not. You know the practice what you preach thing. Ha. I later realized that there should have always been more context with it. Saying this is really powerful, but you have to have way more with it. You can’t just hope and dream and then POOF, it all appears.

“‘Lamborghini, you may be able to drive a tractor but you will never be able to handle a Ferrari Properly’. This was the point when I finally decided to make a perfect car.” — Ferruccio Lamborghini

Wanting to inspire

I wanted to help people that would just say, “One day I will get a great paying job” or “One day I will travel overseas,” by helping them change their mentality of what they were saying to themselves. I had a friend that for many years was always down on my successes because of their own insecurities.

That previous friend called me, “Vacation Man.” He called me that because I traveled a lot. I would say to him, “Hey, you’ll get there just believe you can” and my intentions were for him to build on his hopes and dreams. You must realize that you are capable of doing so many amazing things.

Believing in hope

You most certainly need to have hopes. Look into the future and hope that all will turn out great. Dream the biggest dreams you can about yourself and your world. This will give you the visual of what you anticipate, so make note of it. Put it down on paper and make it pretty clear. Like really, really clear. This declaration should have intent with it.

hope:

a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.

dreams:

a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal.

Adding more to hopes and dreams

It is now my understanding and belief that you should have direction with your hopes and dreams. Stop telling people what you want to do in life. Some people have heard you say what you were going to do for many years. I really like being silent about what I am working on and just let it flow. Let the circumstances reveal themselves at the right time. They will see your actions live and in color. You now roll up to a meet up with your friends that you haven’t seen in a while.  You now have a new truck with graphics on it of your new business and you are making things happen. This will speak volumes!

When you have your dreams clearly defined, then it’s time to take action. Ask yourself, “How am I going to get there?” If you have a dream vacation, then do the homework on what it will take to get you there. Is it the cost that’s holding you back or some other circumstance? Whatever the reason is, it’s up to you to figure out how you will make it happen. Excuses, in the end, are just excuses and serve absolutely no purpose but holding up progress, so please leave those out. We all have highs and lows.

The planning process should be pretty fun! Take time to map it out, visualize cool things you want to do, and then lay down the foundation of the work that it will take to get you there. The hopes and dreams are the blueprints!

Conclusion

Having hopes and dreams is very important for your future. It gives you goals and direction to look forward to. Create a plan of what you want and go after it. Don’t be afraid to rewrite things along the way if your life changes. Recognize that your hopes and dreams will need inspired action to overcome any obstacle along the way.

What advice would you give to a friend that has been saying that he/she has wanted to start a business since high school?
