Highs and Lows

We’re going to take a quick commercial break here and do a mental check-in.  Scratch that, I am not a fan of commercials.  Pausing for a cause sounds a bit better.  What say you?  Ok, so by now if you have been following along our journey you should have been able to acquire or polish up some practical skills for our Ridiculously Enjoy Life endeavor.  Some of you are feeling empowered, motivated and energized, but some may be feeling a bit worn down due to life’s circumstances or loss of steam.  Where are you at with this?  Seriously, where are ya?  Be honest with yourself, because if you smile and say all is ok and it’s not then you’re shooting yourself in the foot.

Mental check-in.

Periodically it’s important to do the mental check-in process.  May seem silly but if you actually do it you’ll be able to fix things quicker.  Let me explain.  When people set forth for just about anything they want in life, there’s a process.  It isn’t that wonderful Genie and the Lamp type thing, POOF!  Starting out you will have a boost of energy but then the newness can start to fade and you may potentially revert back to the very beginning unintentionally and unknowingly.

Months and months could have just faded by and you didn’t realize that you were supposed to get back in gear on the path for success.  You need to motivate yourself again and keep going.  Am I stuck?  Daily life situations will happen and can slow you down.  Are you waking up earlier as we discussed before?  Remember the value of waking up early and grinding before the rest of the world is awake.  The calls, messages, alarms and so on will be less audible so that you can pay attention.

Life can throw things at you just to test your desire to be successful.  Take those as challenges.  I most recently had surgery on my lower back and I was instructed by my wonderful in-home physical therapist to do some exercises.  I do them three times per day.  Sometimes, it’s hard to remember to do them so I have put them in my calendar to chime in 3 times per day.  The benefit for me to do this as an entry in the calendar instead of an alarm is that the alarm you have to turn it off or snooze for a few minutes.

Usually, I have a lot of commitments that I may not be able to physically do at the time, but depending on circumstances I can push it off till the right time.  I don’t push off too far though. I have been known to do these ballerina style exercises in the Target parking lot.  Who cares right!! Get it done.

Stay on track.

Now, let’s say your check-in proves that you are on track on the daily without fail no exceptions, then holy cow congrats on that!  But wait, don’t think you’re off the hook.  “Wait, why am I not off the hook?”  If you have been doing it right and your mental check-in is on point then maybe you can add something new. There’s always room to add something new.  Also, please realize that you can be doing very good for a while and then something happens that brings you from the high’s down to the low’s so please prepare yourself on how to get up and get up quick.  Recognizing that this is going to happen will give you an advantage moving forward.

the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way.

Do you guys have any cool ideas on this mental check-in process that you already do?  Do you do these with other areas of your life as needed?

(Please respond to the questions here with us so we can learn and grow.  The good and the bad will help others recognize successes and failures in our own lives.  Thank you so very much!)
