We are now in a self-improvement/self-development world where many of us just feel overwhelmed by the amount of stuff thrown at us saying to do this or do that to make our lives better. Be better. There are so many resources available to us all the time that we just get burnt out and confused. The Ridiculously Enjoy Life website is also considered a resource.

Do we have to consume every book, podcast, documentary, seminar, and blog that arrives into our world? Nope, we sure don’t. We need to take things with a grain of salt. Be mindful of how much content we are digesting, because it won’t take long before we start feeling this false sense of being broken. I don’t think you are broken, maybe lost.

I am by no means a clinician, but I have enough life experience to understand the effects of overconsumption in any area of our lives. Too much really could mean too much. I want us to start looking at things more clearly. Understanding who we are at the core is super important and the absolute first thing that we need to get clarity on.

If you don’t really know who you are how could you possibly know how to improve yourself? Regardless of where we are in life, it is my firm belief that we should always be learning and growing. There is so much goodness in the world. Self-improvement is truly a good thing and we just have to carve a healthy path on how to accomplish it over time. It’s a lifetime gig, so get comfy!

Learn to truly listen. To cultivate self-improvement we really need to start listening more effectively. Listen to others more intently. Listen to yourself. Listening to others is a skill that really needs to be worked on ongoing. For some reason, many of us just love to talk about ourselves. Being able to listen to others shows respect. They feel respected. I know I like it when people listen to what I have to say, don’t you? Developing this skill will be key to self-improvement.

Improve your mental health. Mental health is no longer frowned upon. It is a magical ingredient for better overall health and well-being. Develop a good view of yourself and a good view of the world around you. If it isn’t, then make it. Do your best to get a better hold of your mind and how it works. Training, practice, and forgiveness are all a part of good mental health. Train your brain and practice daily. Additionally, you should really manage your stress as well. Do the best you can with this one.

Get enough exercise. I can’t stress this enough. Develop a good and healthy exercise routine that will suit your lifestyle. Please check with your PCP for good advice in this department. Do whatever they recommend. Most say a minimum of 20 minutes a day of good exercise will help you in the long run.

Develop good habits. Do this right away! I mean get started right away because it is said that developing a habit will take a minimum of 30 days. If you suck at it it could take a lot longer. Get committed to good habits and drop the bad and unproductive habits. You can develop the good habits and after some time it will be a way of life. If it’s good then it’s ok.

Create realistic routines. Stop lying to yourself about how you want your day to go. Start small and then after a bit of time you will start seeing improvement. When you start out small and succeed, it will help your confidence rise. That will go a long way towards your self-improvement. Self-improvement starts with discipline. Are you disciplined?

Learn to minimize distractions. Every which way we turn we are constantly bombarded with distractions. Emails, text messages, phone calls, notifications, and so on. Distractions only set you back so try to minimize them. When we are working on ourselves we have to recognize the things that get us off track. Self-improvement is a 24/7 thing so distractions will always be present. Balance the things you can when you can. 

Get rid of negativity. Negativity doesn’t serve us. It can become toxic. Try to find the goodness in things. Thinking positively will improve our chances for self-improvement.
