Remove Negative Thoughts (#198)

We need to remove negative thoughts from our beautiful minds. In the interest of progressing within oneself, how we think of the world around us and also how we think about ourselves is important pretty much every moment of every day. Our individual history is different from one another, so some of us could have grown up in a really negative environment while others may have had a more positive upbringing. So to remove negative thoughts we will have to do a deep dive and see what our minds think about as we go.

Think McFly, Think

How the heck could we possibly remove negative thoughts?! Well, that part is really tricky because sadly it is actually impossible to remove all of our negative thoughts, it’s just not gonna happen. We need negative thoughts to progress in life. To survive and to thrive. I know that’s crazy talk, but if you didn’t have the negative we wouldn’t be aware of the positive. Face it it’s a necessary evil, but we can do our very best to eradicate as many of the ongoing and persistent negative thoughts.

Sometimes in life, we carry so much resentment and anger towards people and situations. I speak from experience and it sucks. My attempt to ease this is to have an awareness of what’s going on around me and what I am saying to myself about those situations in the moment. If the same story is playing on repeat it certainly would take a lot more awareness and energy to try to change the internal language. This really is challenging.

Be in the moment as much as possible

For each negative thought that comes into our mind, we need to try to catch it as quickly as possible and redirect it to something positive. After all who likes to sit with negative thoughts all the time? It just wears on our souls and shortens our lifespan. Awareness is key!

I equate this to the practice of meditation. We truly can’t shut off our minds while in a meditative state. The brain by design works 24/7 and even while we sleep. For many of us, our minds work harder in our sleep. Weird but it’s true. When we meditate the purpose is to be in the present moment with a clear mind. Even the people who have practiced meditation for many, many years still have to catch themselves thinking.

When we catch ourselves in thought during meditation our job is to come back to center. Each time we do it it helps us be aware more and more. This is what we need to do with all those intrusive negative thoughts. One by one and day by day we will get better if we can change our thoughts the best we can. If they are negative thoughts about ourselves then we got some internal work to get started on.

If the thoughts we think are negative about others around us or our immediate environment then it’s up to us to try to move past it the best way possible. Sometimes we have to distance ourselves from those negative people around us. That can be tough because we can’t always run. Manage the best way you can and I promise you you will start to see things more clearly.

Conclusion

What we think is how we feel, so change that to happier thoughts as much as possible. Again, it is unreasonable to think that we can be happy all the time. We need the negative to get to the positive. Balance young Jedi! You got this! Dive into some of our other posts of goodness to help you get onto being the you that you want to be.
