Most of us today have what I would call a never ending past. Let me explain. We live in a digital world and everything seems to be recorded at every turn. I mean for real, look around and smile because you my friend are on camera. Does my hair look good?
What we say and what we do are constantly being analyzed and recorded by companies, the government, and random Karen’s on the street. Not the Karen that’s reading this though, you’re good! Cameras are all over the place and omg you can’t get away with anything.
Currently, the average US citizen is recorded about 240 times per week and about 35 per day. In other countries such as China, it’s almost 10 times that amount. That would seem like one continuous reel of your life. Kind of like the Truman Show I guess. I think that’s way too much, but there’s a reason for that. And a good one too! People just can’t seem to behave so it makes others want to have evidence to protect themselves somehow.
Once it’s out there, it’s out there forever. This goes for people willingly sending images and videos of themselves to others. Your private and personal images can make their way to the internet for all to see. That pic, and those comments are permanent, somewhere, everywhere so be mindful.
Your actions can have lasting effects on you and your loved ones because of something you could have done in the heat of the moment. A great example currently is that one guy that slapped that other guy on live TV. Yeah, you know who I am talking about. That was crazy, right?! Now all parties involved will never forget because it was recorded and will keep playing back over and over again.
Since this type of stuff happens it seems to become our never ending past. Many years ago we could do something stupid and our peers could absolutely remember, but it seems to fade more til there’s no more discussion. People seemed to be able to move on for the most part.
If we learn to better temper our frustrations and be mindful of our actions things like that will happen less and less. Yes, things happen, but if we are in a good and healthy state of awareness things will happen less. We need to make good choices. We need to make good choices regardless of whether or not there are cameras present and rolling.
Do the right things when no one is watching and you should be good to go. Heck, do the right thing always and you’ll be even better. Our mistakes can really impact us and our loved ones for years and years to come.
Remember that show COPS? Wow, there wasn’t a shortage of idiots, right?! How many of us watched the show and saw a place we were at that was filmed at some point or another? Or better yet that was being filmed while we were there live and in color! I wasn’t, but still cool.
Conclusion
Today your past will never end with our evolving technology. Videos never go away so please make good choices. That comment that pic is permanent somewhere, so if you don’t want it to come back and haunt you, be aware. The whole saying, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!” Cheesy I know but you get it.
