Learn, unlearn, relearn. What is all this nonsensical stuff, Batman?! Do you know what you have learned and how you have learned it? We go our whole lives absorbing and learning stuff along the way. Many times in adult life, we don’t really realize the stuff we take in. We are still sponges as we were when we were kids but in a different way. Almost to say, an unconscious way.
You learn something and then you duplicate it. Day in and day out. For example, when we were kids we learned to tie our shoelaces. Then we did it that way even up til this very day. Unless you are old and gray and you use velcro straps instead. Don’t tell my girl that, she’ll make fun of you and buy you ones with laces! Ha
But what if you learned it in a less effective way? Maybe there was a way to tie it so that it doesn’t come loose so easily. Perhaps a quicker way than that silly rabbit trick. The point is we may be going through our lives having a habit of learning things and it may possibly be our downfall.
For the purposes of having a growth mindset per se than we may have to completely rewrite our learning and absorbing habits. Those old ways may not serve you anymore. You are striving to be something different, someone, different. Evolving and growing is the next step, so our thoughts and actions must change.
If you are trying to start your very own business or new venture and you have never done it before, then you have to change your mindset. You may be the type to stay up all night playing online games with your friends. This means you probably have poor sleeping habits. Now it means you will have to instill a new way of life.
This is the part where once you know how you have learned things up til this point, you may need to unlearn those bad habits in an effort to get you in the right direction. This process makes most people throw in the towel because they may not truly have any knowledge that it’s their habits and lifestyle that could be holding them back
Time to unlearn those bad habits that could potentially do you and your business harm moving forward. Do the work! Do the work that will move the needle forward. At this point, you may realize that the circle of friends you keep may also be hindering you from success. You have probably been this way your whole life. Your friends may not understand.
Sadly, it may be time to cut ties in the interest of your goals. If people can’t back your dreams and cheer you on, then say goodbye. Don’t let the noise of others suffocate you and your vision. Unlearning is truly a very difficult thing to accomplish if you haven’t been able to recognize your habits of old.
Once you have put in the work of seeing what you are all about and then taking on the big task of unlearning all that jazz, next it’s time to move on to the final phase to relearn. To relearn is to take on a new mindset. Go back to yourself as a child full of wonder and curiosity. Don’t laugh, it could really help you soak in all the new goodness.
Get excited! Say, “Hey, I am the new person here. What can I learn today?” Do it with intention and do it conviction, you will certainly thank me. You will, I promise! Your mind will start to get clearer than ever before. Learn, Unlearn, and Relearn will give your roots the strength it needs for you to grow into the new person you need to become.
Conclusion
To learn in a whole new way is to learn, unlearn, and relearn. This will be a gift amongst gifts for the rest of your life. You will want to pass on this magical formula to those around you. Pick good people that will one-up you along the way. Chase your dreams and inspire others to chase their dreams. Each one, teach one! Now go get started and good luck!
