Something that I have always done that I really like doing is just being super friendly to anyone and everyone I come in contact with. Seeing people smiling and being happy is very infectious and just warms my soul.
When I was just 10 years old my mom would let me walk around the streets of D.C. to go to a 7 ELEVEN when we would visit there from time to time and I would always chat with strangers along the way and make jokes to hopefully add some fun to their day. I know what you’re thinking, who would just let a 10-year-old out on the streets of D.C. alone and it be ok to talk to strangers?
Well, that would be my mom, but it’s ok she was born and raised in Manhattan, so that is actually a way of life! She was street-smart and so am I. Anyway, that being said my mom just knew that I was animated and full of joy so it made sense.
You have the power as well.
Through the years I have discovered the power of smiling at others, saying hello, opening doors, waving, and just being an all-around kind person. It feels good and I will always continue doing it. I have had many strangers tell me that my kind hello went a long way to making their day brighter. We don’t know what people are going through.
I don’t just say hello and be kind to those who seem to have a happy disposition at the time, I like to be that way with anyone and everyone. Glad some of those folks are happy, but we also can’t forget those who are going through hard times. Additionally, not everyone gets kind hello’s from strangers. I have heard many people say that they just feel invisible. Now those are the ones I really want to interact with.
Sometimes all it takes to save someone from taking their own lives is a kind hello. That to me is so very sad to hear. It is a shame that people could just walk through life not even being noticed by those around them. Let’s do our part and lend a warm smile and kind hello. Wave to people to thank them for letting you cross the street or letting you in traffic. Positive minds, positive vibes, positive life!
Be kind and always do your best to share as much warmth with others! I promise it will make you feel good. Also, when you are feeling a bit blue or depressed try to keep a good smile on your face and be extra kind to others. You may be surprised to find out that it could help you out of your own funk as well.
Tell us in the comments anything you would like to add to this. A cool story or things you do to try to brighten other people’s day.
Conclusion
Smile, wave, be friendly, and know that you can make a difference! Pass it on!
