I See Hearts (#176)

I see hearts! Through the years I have learned that we see what we want to see, but never really knew how to explain it. Neuroscience is now here to help me pave the path for you and it is super cool! As most of you know I really dig the brain and all the things it can do for us. We need to learn how to make it work for us in the right way.

The brain is in fact always working for us, but if you don’t give it clear instructions you could be on the wrong track heading right into an oncoming train. It seeks what you think of most. If you think crazy negative thoughts a lot it will absolutely seek that out at every turn. And guess what? There is an insane amount of crazy negativity in the world.

But wait, there is also an insane amount of positivity in the world, but many of us don’t see it because we have our blinders on and are letting that Jerry Springer shows drama play on repeat right in front of us 24/7. What the eyes see and the ears hear the mind believes. Change that up as quickly as humanly possible. Yes, it will be difficult for many of us.

It may be tricky because if you have been this way your whole life then it will take a lot to undo it. I promise you you can do it. You just have to commit to wanting to. A simple way of looking at it is, do I like feeling this way and thinking this way? NOPE!!! So, if the answer is no and should be, then get up and get started.

I got the inspiration for this post from a lady that is super smart and is in neuroscience. Her name is Mel Robbins. She reminds me of a librarian we had at our schools but is super smart. Mel explains that we are programmed to see things in certain ways. She also explains that we can change the things we want to see. We can rewire our brains!

We are able to find and seek out the things we want in life, but we have to create new habits on how to accomplish them. Since we don’t have a user manual on how to navigate our lives, we have to kind of piecemeal things along the way once we discover things. Edit, edit, edit!

A good way to understand that the mind seeks out the things we think about is when we get into the car market and we see a cool car we like and then all of the sudden we see it everywhere and at every corner. That always gets me every time. Wait, does everyone now own the same car I am looking at? Hysterical, right?! The cars were always there, but we were never focused on them because our brains were telling us it wasn’t important enough to store in our brain database.

Her example of how to train what we look for is to start looking for hearts in nature and all around us. Not human hearts or stuff like that, that’s just creepy. The symbol of the heart. Look for them everywhere you go, every single day. You will be pleasantly surprised! I absolutely was myself. I literally found 3 in the first two minutes after watching her video. One was hidden in a painting I did and the other was on another painting I did that was purposefully painted.

Once you have the proof that your mind will seek out what it constantly focuses on then and only then can you begin to make the necessary changes in your life. The trick is you have to constantly be thinking about what it is you want. The brain will veer to the left and to the right and get distracted by crazy negativity around you. It’s ok don’t worry about it. Just try to get back to the goodness as quickly as you can. You will start a new mindset!

Happy Heart Hunting!!!

 Conclusion

The purpose of the exercise is to show us the proof that we need to change our mindset and our beliefs. Many of us need evidence that things do work. Here is the proof! Go look for hearts and you will then start to be able to look for your own goodness in your life. Start seeking the more positive stuff out of life. And if there is crazy negativity, which there will be, start finding some things that are good out of it.

Bonus: If you have spent your whole day looking for these hearts and you absolutely haven’t seen one then get out a blank sheet of paper and draw one. For real just draw one and then you can check it off your list. At the very least you should be able to get a smile out of it right?! You got this!!

Bonus, Bonus: Also, you can take cool pictures of the hearts that you see for later reference on the days that you haven’t found many. Like a cheat code!
