Change These 3 Things to be a Better Human (#298)

We all want to be better versions of ourselves—kinder, wiser, and more fulfilled. But self-improvement can feel overwhelming, like really overwhelming, especially in a world that constantly demands more of us. The good news? Becoming a better human doesn’t require a complete life overhaul. Often, the biggest changes come from adjusting just a few key behaviors. Here are three powerful changes you can make today to start living more meaningfully.

Change These 3 Things to be a Better Human

1. Listen More, Talk Less – SHHHHH

In conversations, most of us are guilty of thinking about what we’re going to say next rather than truly listening. My ADHD used to get in the way, but I am learning more and more to silence the talking machine. We miss opportunities for connection, understanding, and empathy. One of the most human things we can do is listen—really listen—with presence and without judgment. Can you do this?

Make a conscious effort to be fully engaged when someone is speaking. Put your phone down and out of sight. Maintain eye contact. Ask thoughtful questions instead of jumping in with advice or opinions. You’ll be amazed at how much deeper your relationships become. Being a better human starts with hearing others with your heart, not just your ears. Can you hear me now?!

2. Practice Daily Gratitude –  Be Grateful

It’s easy to focus on what we lack—the job we don’t have, the body we want, the success we crave, the money, the cars, the power. But constantly chasing “more” robs us of the joy that’s already present. Gratitude shifts our perspective from scarcity to abundance, and that shift can transform how we experience the world.

Start with something simple: every morning or evening, write down three things you’re grateful for. They don’t have to be big. A warm cup of coffee, a smile from a stranger, a good night’s sleep—all count. Over time, you’ll begin to notice the beauty in the everyday and approach life with more contentment, compassion, and joy. I personally speak the gratitude out so the Universe can hear. Don’t like writing. LOL

3. Act With Intention, Not Impulse – Don’t be Impulsive

In a world of instant gratification, reacting without thinking has become the norm. You know, the knee-jerk reaction! But to be a better human, we must learn to pause and act from a place of purpose. Be a safe space for someone. Whether it’s how we spend our time, how we treat others, or how we respond to challenges—intentionality matters.

Before making a decision, ask yourself: Is this aligned with the kind of person I want to be? This doesn’t mean overanalyzing every move, but rather creating a small gap between stimulus and response. That gap is where growth happens. When we act with intention, we lead lives that reflect our values instead of being driven by impulse or ego. It’s time to let go of the ego, it no longer serves us.

Conclusion

Becoming a better human isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. Be quiet and listen for a bit. By listening more deeply, practicing daily gratitude, and choosing intentional action, you lay the foundation for a life filled with deeper connection, joy, and purpose. These changes might seem small, but their impact can be profound. Start today, and give yourself the permission to grow—one choice at a time. No go test it out!
