Are you falling short of inspiration? Many of us seem to be losing sight of what makes us happy. Poor motivators can be due to all sorts of reasons. I feel like these days we are just flying at over 100mph doing this, that, and the other that we can’t see the cool stuff we are passing along the way.
The fact is there is an endless list of reasons why we seem to be losing inspiration along the way. Some reasons could be due to unrealistic expectations, being burned out, mental health issues, and lack of productivity. Also, we may not feel that we are able and competent to do the things we would like to do.
Some reasons you may be falling short of inspiration:
- Work/life balance: We have to find a healthy way to navigate our careers and our daily lives. Too many of us become overly stressed and burned out. Set boundaries and discover the things you enjoy most in life and then do more of that.
- Burnout: You become mentally, physically, and emotionally drained, which can lead to chronic stress unnecessarily. Pay attention to the signs. Your body will speak to you, it’s your job to listen.
- Possible mental health issues: This is something that the pros (clinicians) would be better suited to assess and assist. I personally have ADHD and I have learned so much about it. I have highs and lows like everyone else but I have to work much harder on pretty much everything even the things I enjoy. Getting reinspired to do things is common for me.
- Managing expectations: We have to be realistic with the things we want to do and it isn’t always easy to stay inspired especially long-term goals with slow progress. It is important for you to do check-ins with yourself periodically. Be patient and take breaks when you need.
- Lack of opportunities: This one is kinda tough these days as we have so many different resources. If things are out of your reach due to geographic location you may have to start working on the process to get you closer to where you need. If you make scuba gear and want to sell it, it may be more difficult to do so being completely landlocked. Get to where the water is so that more people can enjoy your product.
- Compensation issues: Sometimes we may feel undervalued and shorted on monies. This could lead to losing inspiration.
- Conflicts: Dealing with people can be exhausting. Sometimes unresolved issues in the work place could really make you uninspired to do anything there. Pay attention to your moods as they change and the people you are around.
- Workload: If we have too many tasks to do it’s easy to understand how we could fall short on inspiration. Do like me and delegate wherever and whenever possible! Kidding don’t pass everything off that’s just wrong. 🙂
Some cool ways to get you back on track:
- Say no: For real it’s ok to say no to things. Except of course the things in your work that could get you fired. Don’t get fired. In your personal life, there may be many things you’d like to do but you keep saying, “Yes” to family and friends which could distract you from the things you want to do.
- Breaktime: Take breaks when you can and soak in some goodness around you. We need to recharge periodically.
- Transfer tasks: This pretty much means delegating when applicable. Doing too many things could cause your inspiration levels to be depleted.
- Get a new skill: A new hobby or skill is always a good thing especially if it’s related to things you want.
- Be realistic: When you have something big going on and you are losing inspiration and you feel that you want to get reinspired, it can take some time. After all, it probably took some time to lose the inspiration in the first place.
- Get help: Get guidance from professionals when needed. it’s ok to ask for help.
- Discover your why: Why are you doing what you are doing? This should be a no-brainer, but for some of us slow people, I’ll put it as a reminder.
- Seek/find: Seek the things that make you happy and find your inspiration there.
Conclusion
We may not be inspired each and every day to do the things that make our hearts sing, but we need to learn to find the balance. Learning to recognize the signs will be the most important thing. If we can realize when we are falling short, we then can recover quicker.
