Stop Thinking About the What Ifs (#265)

Stop thinking about the what ifs! Like for real, put down that what if and step aside. It seems we are always in our brains about so many potential negative possibilities and this usually leads to an excessive amount of anxiety and worries. As you can imagine this is not really healthy for your overall mental health and well-being.

What if this and what if that? Stop obsessing about stuff. Please try to minimize this. Worrying about things that haven’t happened or even showing signs of potentially happening just isn’t good. Take a deep breath and maybe consider doing some box breathing.

I recall years ago before this journey of mine had even started I would always worry about everything. The “What ifs” were front and center and it made it extremely difficult to function. I think I still worry about many things, but I believe I have managed to get the what ifs under control.

For me, it was the sense of impending doom because at the time it seemed that I had bad luck. I literally had one crazy thing happen after the next. I ended up adopting that mentality. The mentality that I had bad luck and that the next crazy thing was around the corner. “What if something bad happens?” I just seemed to attract those things at that time.

I actually discovered that my what if mentality was what was making things worse. It didn’t seem as if I could catch a break. People started say that I was a black cat and I truly started believing it. I needed to stop thinking about the what ifs and try to adopt a new mindset.

Do you constantly worry about the what ifs? If you do like so many others do, take a step back and look at how you process information. You have to start doing the homework it takes to get rid of that negative mentality. This of course won’t be easy. You can’t get rid of all negative thoughts that would be impossible. There’s no Easy Button to push this time!

Having the what ifs mentality can really get in the way of your progress. Whether it be in your professional world your private world or both. It’s really killing your time management. When you realize you are having the what ifs thoughts try to change the little voice in your head to something positive.

On that note, I think it’s ok for us to think of really positive what ifs. The only trick to this is to try not to sit with it too long because then you could be wasting your time. We don’t get the time back so please be mindful.

We get to have the good what if moments when we are starting a brand new business or creating something cool. Think about the beautiful possibilities with any new endeavor, it’s a great motivator. Put lots of action behind the good what ifs.

Conclusion

Dwelling on the bad things that happen to us in life and always saying, “What if” just doesn’t feel right. It makes us feel anxious and stressed unnecessarily so try to turn it around as fast as you can. You got this and we are here for you!
