If you seek you shall find. This saying meant nothing to me many years ago because I always believed that it was hocus pocus talk from stereo-type people that sat under trees and chanted for hours on end. It took growing internally and truly understanding myself. This was by no means an easy task. But working on yourself is important for growth. If at first, you don’t succeed, edit, edit, edit!
The principle of this saying is about positive and negative views. Our life experiences over time have a way of molding us and our overall outlook on life. Many people have had difficult past experiences that have given them blinders to the goodness that’s all around. For the sake of explaining this better, I will start with the negative because these are the things we want to break. We need to recognize our daily habits and how we view things.
If you focus on your negative experiences you will ultimately keep finding the negativity. It becomes like a domino effect. When we encounter a potentially negative situation it’s up to us to decide how we want to react to it. Yes, we just got into a car accident and the car is totaled, however, if we take a moment to reflect on the good out of it your mind can steer you into the more positive side of it. We didn’t die! Isn’t that some great news from this hypothetical car accident?
If you find and focus on the goodness of experiences you will start to have less and less chaotic situations. The ones that do arise, you’ll have the mental fortitude to bring yourself up and move on. There are positives in each story we just have to find them. Appreciate what you have, appreciate that you are strong and capable of handling anything life throws at us, and think positively.
Here is a story of something that I experienced that really gave me clarity to this whole seek and you shall find thing.
One day a few years ago I had an appointment at a social services office. The social worker called me into her office and upon entering I noticed a lot of pictures, trinkets, and stuff of butterflies. I asked the young lady about her love of butterflies since it was inescapable to notice. She said she absolutely loves butterflies and thinks that they are amazing creatures. She went on and on about all the goodness of butterflies.
I related to her because I too like butterflies and enjoy photographing them. She said, “Sadly I haven’t seen any in quite a long time.” I said, “Really?” She said, “Yeah maybe a few years.” I was taken aback because there was some irony to this. Directly outside her office, there was a butterfly garden. Specifically designed by landscapers to be an official butterfly garden for enthusiasts to enjoy. I knew that it was there but it truly didn’t register until after I left her office and it sunk in.
Here was a nice young lady that was very passionate about butterflies and works in a perceived naturally negative field. There are great stories and great things that her field does for others but many people allow the negative stuff to cloud their everyday outlook on life. It was truly eye-opening for me. I took all of my observations from that encounter and was able to reflect on myself and how I perceived the world around me. What’s the title of your movie?
Conclusion
Take the time to understand your tendencies in life. Do you tend to always view things with positivity or do you have the doom on me disposition? Seek and you shall find. Find as much of the goodness out there as you can. Bad things can and will happen but do your best to discover as many positive things that you can.
