Do you have a great work ethic? Well, I sure hope so! Having a great work ethic is very important in so many areas of our lives not just employment. “Ethic” is the magic word! Many people say that it’s gone away and that society is doomed. I say doom on the doom! There are people who still possess this.
ethic: a set of moral principles, especially ones relating to or affirming a specified group, field, or form of conduct.

I believe I have an amazing work ethic. Not just tooting my own horn, but I really give everything to what I have done in my life and what I continue to do. Whether I was working for someone or for myself, my genuine nature doesn’t allow me to be lacking in that department. When you think about it just makes sense.
We want to give our all to what we do with pride. We own it. We make it personal. To those who say that you shouldn’t take reviews personally, I disagree. It is about us. The review may be wrong or skewed based on those reviewers with agendas. That part is their problem. Having a good work ethic means that we are bound with goodness to what we are doing.
Give and take
This whole give it our all work ethic could end up being a downer for us sometimes, because others may take advantage of how we work. You know what I mean. You give it your all and you take on more than your role. Sadly many of us aren’t rewarded as we should be. By in large many corporations seem to suck the juice out of us. Not their fault though. We apparently let them.
Did you stand up for yourself? If not then that’s another issue. We need to be treated with respect. We gave our all and more. Give me the respect and reward that I deserve. Unfortunately, this is a pivotal part where good people go bad. Not meaning like going postal. Well, maybe. There are some people who are crazy and go postal because they weren’t rewarded as they should. Please don’t do this. Just move on to somewhere else. A place that can value you.
Once we realize that we are being taken for granted in our workplace and we have given our all, things can really go sideways. I used to hear people say stuff like, “From now on I am just gonna come in and do the bare minimum of what the job title says and go home,” or “That’s not my job!,” and so on.
If you are finding yourself saying things like this then it’s really time to reevaluate what your values are. What are your core values? Remember when you had a great work ethic? Why did it stop? You really need to ask these questions. Find the answers. They are questions for a reason. Stop making excuses.
Stay true to who you are
Please don’t water down your work ethic in reaction to what your company is doing to you. Stand up for yourself or go find somewhere else. We work ourselves to the bone (many of us) and we deserve to feel the reward of what we are doing. The recognition monetarily or in merit. If too much time goes by that you have given less than stellar work then guess what’s gonna happen? It’s gonna be a personality trait.
You will have changed your great work ethic to someone that just sucks at their work. Boo. I truly encourage you to do a deep dive with this. What do you want to show the world about your work style? Are you just a machine and just functioning or are you going to do what is right?
Conclusion
Having a great work ethic is an all-around thing. If you don’t give it your all at your work do the other areas in your life mirror that style. Hmm. I am sure they aren’t but it really makes you think right?! Keep your goodness going!
