Don’t get lazy on lockdown, find your inner strength young Jedi! Have you been wandering around aimlessly with no rhyme or reason? This is a very difficult time that we all are facing. We are sharing this all across the globe. The COVID19/Coronavirus pandemic has us all living in either fear or denial. Maybe even both.
I will be the first to raise my hand on this one. We have been on lockdown as a means to help slow the spreading of the virus. The past couple of weeks I have pretty much-done nothing. My routine and habits have fallen by the wayside. What the heck happened to all that goodness I have been preaching? I feel like I let myself down.
Stop being lazy and giving excuses
Ok, stop the whining and stop being lazy. I know I have done a really good job thus far for the past year with good routines and good habits. So, this is a good example of things changing up and making a mess of things, but it’s how I react to it that will make all the difference.
In my defense (excuses yes, but a valid one) I have had a lot of different health issues the past few years that have slowed me down. Several weeks ago I ended up having to go to a doc in the box due to symptoms that mirrored whats going around. About four days went by with the fever, cough, tight chest, and shortness of breath. I decided to get it checked out. The shortness of breath I have had for a couple of months related to preexisting stuff.
Anyway, long story short the doctors stated that I had an upper respiratory infection/bronchitis and sent me on my way with a boatload of medicine. My laziness for the past few weeks is in part due to the medical stuff and also I believe all the chaos in the news and all around us. Think it was wearing me down and exacerbating the whole upper respiratory thing. This is definitely a different way of life.
Regaining perspective
I will say that even though I have have been lazy on lockdown and done pretty much nothing but sit on the couch, binge on ice cream, and watch Netflix like a pregnant woman, I still have managed to do my daily walks. In fact, I actually have managed to up the exercise and go on three walks daily. I was told by the doctors that keeping the exercise up should help me get through bronchitis. Even though I have managed to do the exercise, I have dropped the ball on many other of my projects and daily goodness.
Being lazy on lockdown is a quick way to get into a big rut, physically and emotionally. This is a good time to do a mental check-in to see where you are at. Each day it’s a good idea to assess your short term and longterm goals. Even though the decade has started out a bit rough keep getting inspired. Some goals may need to be modified a bit due to lifestyle change. Are you feeling ok? Is your mind right through all of this?
Minimizing distractions on lockdown
If you are prone to getting sucked into the news, the social media rants and people who bring you down, try to redirect your focus into something different. Something good to do is to try to work on some of your goals. Start checking things off to get to your goals. It could be improving a skill or learning about your target goal and how to attain it.
I decided that I wanted to learn more about the tools that could help me be more creative in my photography, graphic designing, and writing. I use Adobe Creative Apps and decided to purchase Adobe Creative courses to help me ramp up my knowledge and start practicing them. It is really cool and I am really excited about being more creative and understanding each of the apps environments. It is insane how much goodness is built into each of them. So many features that you almost have to have an engineering degree.
On to a good cause
Additionally, I decided to make masks and give them to people I know and people in need. I plan on making a bunch of them so I can donate to our first responders and hospital staff in my area. With excitement, I purchased a sewing machine and fabric, but I had never used one in my entire life so I had to have a crash course. I continued my education on YouTube University for this grand task.
By finding something that can help you reach your goals and continuing your path in a different way will be a big step in the right direction. Get rid of being lazy on lockdown and take advantage of the time. Use it as an opportunity. You can even add learning a new hobby that you’ve been thinking about. Get the creative juices flowing and help distract your brain from the daily chaos that’s all around. Find your silver lining and go with it.
Conclusion
During these crazy times, it’s easy to lose your way and get sucked into sadness. The quicker you recognize this the quicker you can begin springing back. Do keep tabs on your emotional wellbeing frequently so you can stay on track.
What skills and hobbies do you have that are helping you get through these crazy times on lockdown? Some people are getting so creative that it’s becoming more inspiring for me.
