Do You Have a Growth Mindset (#23)

Do you have a growth mindset? If not, get on board! Growth mindset seems to be a big motivational saying that people may not really understand.  In short, the term seems to state “think bigger.”  When you dig in to uncover its roots, it’s actually pretty cool.  It refers to the mind and how the mind is able to continually grow as long as it’s given the proper tools to do so.

“Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.”

― Steve Maraboli

Two types of mindsets

There are two types of mindsets. The first is fixed mindset, which is the belief that the brain has fixed traits that cannot change.  Someone with a fixed mindset has the belief that if you are really good or not good at something, then you were just born that way.  It is my belief that this way of thinking limits one’s potential to learn and grow in other areas.

Additionally, with a fixed mindset, people stick to what they know and never branch out sometimes due to the belief of being judged and facing failure.  The next is growth mindset, which believes that the mind can adapt, learn and expand.  Growth mindset affords people the belief that they can do anything they want based on their own input.  Believing you can and going after your dreams! “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!”  Nope, you need to remove that saying from your world.  Replace it with, “I know I can!”  Thinking basically gives room for self-doubt.

Believing has more power than you know

The belief process has so much power and limitless possibilities.  In the growth mindset, all of your views and actions are explored with ambition, which enables you to achieve.  Having self-confidence needs to be in place first and foremost or you will just be spinning your wheels.  You need to believe in yourself and your abilities.  For some, this may take some work and that’s ok because it’s for bettering yourself.  A great starting point will be if you believe that anyone can accomplish anything, because after all the term “anyone,” includes yourself.

I am so excited about learning and growing that I find that I have become consumed with it (in a good way).  Expanding my mind has become my hobby and passion.  Immersing myself in this awareness now has so many possibilities, which is a driving force for growth mindset.  This is how I have recognized that I have a growth mindset. Also, I look to my peers that have overcome many obstacles through the years and it helps motivate me. Some are truly built with the growth mindset while others had to work at it. Either way, look inward and create your own drive and determination. The proof is in the puddin!

Branch out of your comfort zone

The growth mindset is all about the process and the inner workings of challenges, versus the fixed mindset, believe it’s all about the outcome which loses the appreciation for how you arrived where you are.  Take the time to open your eyes because you will end up seeing new things to expand on.  New opportunities will reveal themselves.  Then the next step is to branch out of your comfort zone and take on one of these challenges.  Once you have made the commitment and you’re in that challenge, the same thing can happen again.  You can uncover new opportunities each step of the way, but you have to realize that you may not succeed with every challenge.  You must be ok to fail, so that you may learn.

Knowing that each of us aren’t predisposed to only one certain thing in life should be a good indicator as to what you can do.  So, go do it!!

opportunity:

a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something.

If I challenged you to go after having the growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset, what would you say and why?  Inquiring minds wanna know!
