The egoic mind and how it will ruin you if you let it. In our youth, we begin to form our personalities and over time our experiences with the world around us fabricate our persona. The persona is the self-worth gone haywire. When it goes haywire we put ourselves on a pedestal for all to see.
ego: a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance.
ego in the psychoanalysis world: the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity.
Ego and I
The ego complains and is resentful about its past experiences, which makes it very susceptible to embarrassment. No one likes to be embarrassed or feel that they have done something wrong. Our mind has a way of trying to individualize each situation in order to highlight certain aspects of our personalities. The “I” and “me” want and need recognition, therefore the egoic mind is reactionary and others need to be wrong and you to be right.
When we allow the egoic mind to prevail we tend to diminish and discredit others. Many times we actually will be so full of ourselves that we may not even give someone an opportunity to state their case before we prejudge their position. Our complaints and resentment from other situations in life creep in and mask the situation at hand in order for us to justify our own stance. Regardless of being right or wrong.
Track record needs to change
It’s kind of like our long-standing grievance from the past that was formed unconsciously. Grievances as you know are developed over time. We need to become aware of the “I” and “me” that we place in our thoughts so that we can be more objective. You don’t have to always feel like you’re being attacked by others. Let the past go so that you can learn how to be more engaging with the world around you. Pay attention to your self-talk.
The egoic mind is made up of a bunch of thoughts. Those thoughts are usually filled with self-doubt, self-sabotage, and misguided information. It turns out that our thoughts can end up leading us down the wrong path even though we have set goals. Damn, I knew I should have made a left about 2 years ago! Next time I shall rely on the here and now.
Don’t let your thoughts and beliefs prevail in the pursuit of what’s right and just. Be open to understanding others, be open to truly learning about yourself, in an effort to be kinder to yourself and to those around you. There is such a sense of relief when you can realign with the goodness all around.
Conclusion
The mind trap of the ego will lead you astray and will only lead to further confusion within yourself. The I am right and you are wrong mentality seems to overtake people in a way that degrades the truth. Our ego was originally for the purposes of protecting us.
