Hello there and good day to you! I hope that this post finds you well. I would like to start off by saying, thank you so much for being here! Wow, isn’t this a warm welcome?! Please stick around and enjoy all the polite goodness to come.
I would like to share a sad but good story that I uncovered during a recent trip with my youngest daughter. What seemed to start off as a good flight, I quickly realized that many adults these days are losing touch with being cordial and polite. This is very sad to me because I am rooting for humanity.
As we were airborne at a comfy 35,000ft, our flight attendants were coming down the aisle giving out snacks and refreshments. This is my favorite part! I love those Biscoff cookies they hand out. They taste way better than those from the stores. Who knows, right?!
Anyway, in front of our row, I could hear one of the flight attendants getting a bit snippy and also joking with one of the passengers, so not really sure exactly what was going on. My Super Sonic Hyper Curios sensors were going off, and I heard the flight attendant say to the passenger, “ You could hear me if you took your headphones off!” Then the person responded with what snacks she wanted.
The flight attendant quickly responded, “I will if you say please and thank you!” I was in a bit of shock hearing that coming from the attendant because of the tone. I started thinking to myself, maybe she is having a really bad day, especially in the line of work she is in. This current decade of 2020 is pretty freakin crazy if you ask me.
Next, she got to our row and she asked if we wanted anything, and then I asked for “Biscoff cookies and h20, PLEASE AND THANK YOU!” She looked shocked, and then she quickly got a smile on her face as I was smiling. She said, “ABSOLUTELY” and promptly gave me half a dozen of the cookies! She told me that she is quite sad that most of the flights people don’t say “please and thank you,” and she further described her experience. “Most people don’t even look up at me and acknowledge my presence,” she said.
She went on telling me that the ones who say please, thank you, are grateful and polite, are actually the kids. This is both amazing and disturbing. You could actually see the sadness on her face as she was telling me this. I felt so bad for her. Positive vibes only.
At the end of the flight and on the way out, I told her to keep being who she was and never give up on humanity. I also gave her our RidiculouslyEnjoyLife.com information in hopes that it may speak to her as well.
Conclusion
Please, please, please say “please and thank you” to people. Do your very best to be in the present in the moment. People in the service industry all too often get ignored, and it makes them feel like ghosts. Next time you’re out and about, take a look at the service staff and watch the interactions with people. Next, rise up and make their day bright by interacting with them. SMILE! Please and thank you.
