Why Having a Vision is Important (#264)

Can you see me? Can you see me now?! Having a vision is very important for your overall health, well-being, and your future. But really, why do we need one? Let’s discuss.

The reason to have a vision for your future is it’s a way for you to understand what your goals and life purpose are all about. You get to set the stage for your success journey. This my friends is a beautiful thing so please get on board with it, quick, fast, and in a hurry! Hey, if we don’t have hopes and dreams, what do we have?

Many moons ago I was lucky enough to allow myself the time and space to get clarity on what I wanted in my life. Shortly after my life’s purpose started to unfold itself right in front of me. Let’s call it an “Ah-ha” moment! The stars were starting to align for me.

For me, it took a bit of time because I was doing a lot of internal work. I was getting rid of old bad and toxic habits that had been getting in the way of any potential progress for me. There was a period of time when I was a kind of a doom and gloom character because of a series of crazy circumstances in my life.

Sometimes this could be a perfect time to develop your vision because you could literally start saying the things that you want in your life. Ignore all the things that are going wrong in the moment. Your vision can be modified and edited along the way. I promise that it’s ok to do that! Also, it may be a good idea to make yourself a vision board.

Here are some pretty good benefits of having a vision:

  • Aides in clarity: You can get clear on what it is that actually speaks to you. What is your why?
  • Manages expectations: The vision will give you valuable information as to what the road ahead may mean for you. You will need to do lots of work. Just because you have a vision for yourself doesn’t mean it will all just be rolled out for you. Do the work.
  • Helps spotting opportunities: If you know your vision then you can have the ability to filter things that are needed to get you there. Don’t waste too much time doing other things that aren’t a part of your vision.
  • Find meaning and purpose: This will definitely help you figure out the reason why you want to be where your vision of yourself is. Go get it!
  • Gives you direction: You can more easily see all the possibilities of where you want to be. You will develop a drive and that will take a lot of discipline to stay on track. I believe you can do it.

Bonus: Create a vision statement for yourself and for your business if you have one. Seeing it in print really makes a difference in how you navigate your days. Write it in the present tense.
