What’s your life’s purpose? How do you find your life’s purpose? We go through life trying to do the best we can with what we have. There is a belief that our immediate environment reveals our reality. I don’t believe that this is true at all. We need to dream and believe in the many possibilities out there. What the heck are we here for?
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
You keep searching
The revolving door of life shouldn’t be the same images day in and day out unless it fulfills you entirely. You should feel happy with your world and you should make all the strides to keep it going in the direction you want. This really sounds simple, doesn’t it? Some people will go through life searching and searching with no answer. For me, I have discovered my purpose and I think it’s pretty amazing. Am I fulfilled entirely as of yet? No, but I am aligning my world to continue uncovering all the goodness that comes with my life purpose.
I have discovered what some of the main areas in my life are that truly feel purposeful. And I am speaking on a higher level. I am at the door, I have opened the door and I have just walked through the door of the things that create purpose. Now, I am going in and going to discover more of the goodness inside. Hope to God that there’s not a wet floor for me to bust my butt on. But if I fall, I will get up, laugh and keep going!
I enjoy helping people in any way I can and I know that I can/do make a difference. Hearing cool humanitarian stories are very inspiring to me because I know that we are all here to help others. It is this belief that has given me the courage to break out of my comfort zones.
Creating something great
In Spring 2019 I started a food donation program from my youngest daughter’s elementary school that we donate to a local food bank. It started one day when I went to lunch with my oldest daughter at her school. In the cafeteria, I saw that they had a food donation box and I wondered why this wasn’t done at the elementary, so I decided to pursue getting it done. The donations are from students that have unopened food packages that are not wanted and otherwise would be thrown away.
We made my youngest daughter the ambassador and it is doing well. Helping feed others that are down on their luck is one of my purposes here. You and I can more than likely open our fridge and have several options on what to eat, others do not so that’s a big drive for me.
I am always listening
For several years now I have learned so much about myself that helps me define and clarify my purpose here. Many times upon randomly meeting people in public, I have found that there is this sense of comfort within these people to share their problems with me out of the blue. I have always engaged back as if I was some sort of Psychologist (clearly I am not) and it makes me feel so good to even just be an ear for them. Connecting and networking are a couple of my strong suits that I believe help me channel my purpose here. Now, I will continue to tap into it and explore impactful things to do.
Tips for finding your life’s purpose
- First, it would be a good idea to write down the things you enjoy doing. Write them all out so that you can see and be aware of them. This process should take you a good bit of time as it is important to really be true to yourself.
- Next, write down things that you are passionate about. These are the types of things that you put your heart into. Anything and everything should be written down. Some people put their hearts into cool hobbies, causes, your current work and so on. You may not put your heart into some of the “things you enjoy” category above so be aware of the differences so as not to confuse them.
- Following you should write a list out of the things you want to do. This list is also anything and everything. The purpose is to gather information on your wants. You can write down the things you would like to do for a career, as a hobby or just to try out.
- Go through each of the lists and see what gets your mind going and what seems to be exciting for you. You will then be able to use some of this information to get you closer to figuring out what your Life Purpose is. Do know that your life purpose won’t feel like work to you so if it’s traditionally known as a “job” don’t look at it like that. People say that once you find your life’s purpose you won’t work another day in your life.
Keep searching till you find what you are passionate about.
